General Terms & Conditions of Trade

Carriage and Minimum Order Requirements

All trade deliveries are fulfilled on standard 1200 x 1000 pallets. Albert James operate its own fleet of vehicles for deliveries Monday – Friday within an approx. 70 mile radius of the Bristol headquarters. Deliveries outside this area are fulfilled via a national pallet delivery contractor Monday – Friday or Saturday morning at an additional cost.

To qualify for “carriage paid” an order needs to meet the following conditions;

• AE James own transport £300
• UK including Scotland, Channel Islands, 1 tonne
• N Ireland, Eire, Europe, Rest of World On application

A maximum pallet weight of 1,200 kg can be delivered via courier assuming forklift unloading, otherwise 1,000 kg by handball unloading.


All goods are sold subject to prices ruling at the time of delivery as contained in the Company’s current standard price list. The published trade prices are subject to VAT at the standard rate, except where marked ‘0’ (zero rated products). Prices are subject to alteration without prior notification.

Ordering and Deliveries

Albert James own fleet deliveries operate on a weekly route schedule and require orders to be placed a minimum 2 working days prior to delivery. Pallet deliveries fulfilled via the national pallet delivery courier need to be placed at least 3 working days prior to the required receipt date.

Collections from Barrow Mill require a minimum of 24 hours’ notice to allow adequate time to pick the order.

Trade Accounts

Applying for a trade account requires the completion of an account application form. Should a trade account be granted it will entitle customers to a credit account payable on 20th of the month following invoice, unless different terms have been agreed in writing, which will be subject to a strict credit limit and require prompt settlement of due monies. The Company reserves the right to impose an interest charge of 3% per month if payment of the goods or any part thereof is not made by the due date.

We also reserve the right to withdraw the credit account without notice and at our discretion. Should any default be made by the Customer in paying any sum due under any order as and when it becomes due, the Company shall in addition to all other rights have the right either to suspend all further deliveries until the default be made good or to cancel the orders so far as any goods remain to be delivered there under.

Damages and Faulty Goods

All deliveries should be examined at the point of receipt and acknowledged as received in full by signing the driver’s delivery note. Shortages, damages or apparent faulty goods should be clearly stated on the drivers copy of the delivery note.

Any claims arising from the delivery must be notified to Albert James administrative staff within 24 hours of receipt. Claims for damaged or shortage of goods, which have been collected from Barrow Mill cannot be accepted once you have left the premises. Medicinal products marked GSL must be returned within 7 days to comply with the Veterinary Medicines Directorate regulations.

Where any valid claim in respect of any of the goods is notified to the Company in accordance with these Conditions, the Company shall be entitled to replace the goods (or the part in question) free of charge or, at the Company’s sole discretion, refund to the Customer the price of the goods (or a proportionate part of the price) but the Company shall have no further liability to the Customer.
